coming a cropper...
see the pic above? you could be forgiven for thinking it's another example of that strange phenomena known as crop circles (albeit that the "aliens" were a bit drunk)...but, in reality, the truth is rather more mundane...
these bizarre patterns, discovered in a corn field in Holland, were made by a drug user who attempting to escape from police in his father's car. the silly chap had been using cocaine.
4 police cars were damaged in a desperate attempt to prevent the crazed driver from reaching public roads, but they could not save the crop from irrepairable damage. in the end, the man was captured when he crashed the car into a ditch.

zorse??? huh?!?!!?
Meet Eclyse the zorse...it looks as if someone tried to give a zebra a respray ... then ran out of white paint halfway through the job.
But in reality there is no artificial colouring on display here. This amazing but natural coat belongs to Eclyse the zorse. Her father is a zebra, while her mother is a horse. And she's walking proof of how a child inherits genes from both parents.
For while most zebra-horse crossbreeds sport stripes across their entire body, Eclyse only has two such patches, on its face and rear.
The one-year-old zorse was the accidental product of a holiday romance when her mother, Eclipse, was taken from her German safari park home to a ranch in Italy for a brief spell.
Now she's become a major attraction at a safari park at Schloss Holte Stukenbrock, near the German border with Holland, where she has her own enclosure.

mainstream is boring...
slightly kooky but absolutely ravishing alternative songstress RACHAEL YAMAGATA on the other hand, is decidedly not...born from the union of a japanese father and an italian-german mother, her mixture of genes has resulted in something special indeed...and blessed with a dark raspy alto, she is slowly but surely winning over legions of fans, one of whom is me of course...
this is her debut single WORN ME DOWN off her first solo album HAPPENSTANCE...yums...
RACHAEL YAMAGATA - "Worn Me Down"
Gone, she's gone
How do you feel about it
That's what I thought
You're real torn up about it
And I wish you the best
But I could do without it
And I will, because you've worn me down
Oh, I will, because you've worn me down
Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please
But you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her
And you're wrong, you're wrong
I'm not overreacting
Something is off
Why don't we ever believe ourselves
And I, oh, I feel that word for you
And I will, because you've worn me down
Oh, I will because you have worn me down
Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please
But you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her
She's so pretty; she's so damn right
But I'm so tired of thinking
About her tonight
Worn me down like a road
I did everything you told
Worn me down to my knees
I did everything to please
But you can't stop thinking about her
No, you can't stop thinking about her

real idiot
Phnom Penh - Cambodian officials on Tuesday warned the public against home penis enlargement plans after a coroner found a man who had repeatedly self-injected his member with hair tonic had taken his own life to end the painful side effects.
Coroner Vieng Vannarith concluded that a 35-year-old construction worker had hanged himself last week after the hair tonic remedy which advertised it gave thicker and more lustrous locks failed to have the same effect when injected into his penis.
Authorities said the man had been self-injecting for some time, and the treatment had caused massive ulceration, leaving him in such permanent agony that he decided to end his ordeal by his own hand.

Countdown to the iPhone release this Friday -- people are already waiting in line!?!
Lineups for the iPhone are already beginning, says a photographer who has already spotted a queue. At least two unnamed men have already formed the start of a line at Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York City, complete with stanchions (metal crowd barriers) that suggest official awareness of the visitors' places in the line.

down and out for the count, mr tsunami...
it was just a matter of time before something bad happened...
A Japanese man who set a world record by wolfing down 53 hot dogs in 12 minutes has suffered a severe jaw injury due to his rigorous training, making his next title uncertain.
Takeru 'Tsunami' Kobayashi said he can only open his mouth to make a gap the size of a fingertip after being diagnosed with jaw arthritis. In an entry on his blog entitled Occupational Hazard, Kobayashi said: "My jaw refused to fight any more."
The injury occurred only a week after the slender 29-year-old started training to win his sixth straight title at the annual July 4 Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating contest on New York's Coney Island. "I was continuing my training and bearing with the pain but finally I destroyed my jaw."

cor, i desperately need a break from work...non-stop since february when i went to BKK with my darling...it's just been nose to the grindstone daily and i've just about come to the end of my tether
accordingly, have planned 2 short breaks in july and i hope that it comes to fruition
8/10 july - 3D2N up in a kelong in malaysia, to chill out, get a tan, fish and sit around chugging beers
27/29 july - 3D2N up with my boyz in KL...one last boys' trip before everyone gets well and truly settled down with family and the like...after that, i really do not see much chance to get together like this anymore...i hope most, if not all of them, will be able to make it...i see loads of binge-eating and imbibing copious amounts of alcoholic beverages
can't come soon enough for me

fergie chillin' out...
BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY...a very different kind of song from fergie...i like...introspective and mature...and she looking mighty fine too...
Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry Lyrics
VERSE 1
The smell of your skin lingers on me now
You're probably on your flight back to your home town
I need some shelter of my own protection baby
Be with myself in center, clarity
Peace, serenity
CHORUS
I hope you know
I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal
Myself and I
We got some straigtening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
Big girls don't cry
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry
VERSE 2
The path that I'm walkin, I must go alone
I must take the baby steps 'til I'm full grown, full grown
Fairy tales don't always have a happy ending do they?
And I forsee the dark ahead if I stay
CHORUS
I hope you know
I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal
Myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
Big girls don't cry
BRIDGE
Like a little school mate in a school yard,
We'll play jacks and Uno cards
I'll be your best friend
And you'll be my Valentine
Yes you can hold my hand if you want to
Cuz I wanna hold yours too
We'll be playmates and lovers and share our secret world
But it's time for me to go home
It's getting late dark outside
I need to be with myself in center,
Clarity, peace, serenity
CHORUS
I hope you know
I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal
Myself and I

lake goes *poof*
woah nelly...i can just imagine it swirling around nicely as it empties into the fissure...just like bathwater...how ever so odd...
The lake, in the Magallanes region of southern Chile, was fed by a glacier (left) but had radically changed by the time researchers visited it in May.
Lake disappears suddenly in Chile
Scientists in Chile are investigating the sudden disappearance of a glacial lake in the south of the country.
When park rangers patrolled the area in the Magallanes region in March, the two-hectare (five-acre) lake was its normal size, officials say. But last month they found a huge dry crater and several stranded chunks of ice that used to float on the water.
One theory is that an earthquake opened up a fissure in the ground, allowing the lake's water to drain through.
"In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal," Juan Jose Romero from Chile's National Forestry Corporation, Conaf, said. "We went again in May and to our surprise we found that the lake had completely disappeared. All that was left were chunks of ice and an enormous fissure."
Geologists and other experts are being sent to the area, which is some 2,000km (1,250 miles) south of the capital, Santiago, to investigate. The region is shaken by frequent earth tremors and one idea is that a strong quake which hit the neighbouring region of Aysen in April opened up the fissure in the bottom of the lake.
A glacier specialist, Andres Rivera, told Chilean newspaper La Tercera that the lake's disappearance seemed to be part of the continual reforming of the landscape. The Magallanes area "has seen interesting changes in the last few decades," he said, noting that the lake itself had not been there 30 years ago.

could he do the impossible?
how good is lewis hamilton? he's already turned F1 on its head this year (in his rookie season) by landing on the podium 7 times out of 7 starts in his fledgling career, with 2 wins to boot...both in north america (montreal & indianapolis)...
he's actually even shading his more illustrious McLaren team-mate, spaniard and 2-time defending champion, fernando alonso who ostensibly is the team-leader...leading to talk that there is favouritism in the english team (i.e. favouring the english racer)...
can he keep up the pace? can he prevent all the accolades from inflating his head?
time alone will tell...he's already well and truly on the pace for an absolutely outstanding season and who's to say that at the end of the season, he can't be champion? truly a prodigy and a marketer's dream!

busy as a fat bumblebee
sorry, i haven't been updating in a bit...was and am still rather tied-up with work...it's been a very hectic last 7 days and it promises to be the same for the next 10 days, so any updates will be pretty more sporadic...
i have finally decided on my DSLR...
...after agonising over the decision for quite a while now, i have decided that i would go for a somewhat cost-effective NEW package which should last me for the next 4 to 5 years, hopefully...
the NIKON package is as follows:-
all for slightly more than 1050 the next thing would of course be the 55-200mm VR AF-S zoom, which i hope the missus (who's in tokyo now) can find at a better-than-local price...the best so far that i have come across is about s$430...if only

and the 2 lenses (future 55-200mm on the right) plus flash unit:-
