pasir gudang track layout...
...come end may and it will resound with the roar of engines as MIATA SG conducts its 2008 trackday...will be there with other friends, all driving other cars though...can't wait!
dishwalla's ANGELS & DEVILS...
better in time
since winning THE X-FACTOR UK television talent show, Leona Lewis has been on nothing less than a rampage through the charts...her 1st single was downloaded 50,000 times in less than 30 minute...her second single topped charts all over the world including the US...and her album went #1 on debut in both the UK and the US...the first of this achievement by a Brit artiste...
helps of course that she's quite easy on the eye, but her voice is just stupendous!
lurve her double-sided 3rd single, showcasing BETTER IN TIME and FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND...but i prefer the former song...shows off her control of pitch...and very poignant...

now i haven't had the opportunity...
...of catching one of these babies on rod and reel...but i do hope i get the chance to...it would be a blast, i tell you!
the NARROW-BARRED SPANISH MACKEREL is another aggro pelagic, hitting lures and bait without compunction...it doesn't grow as big as the GT but what it lacks in size and weight (relatively-speaking), it more than makes up for in sheer speed...there is nothing like the first strike run of these speedsters (other than their close relative - the wahoo - which can be even faster)
the drag on the reel literally sizzles, running hot and drying out the salt water!
the photo shows a 46 kgm monster but they would be more commonly encountered in our waters between 5 to perhaps 12 kgm...but even at those comparatively-smaller sizes, they are not an easy proposition by any means...on light tackle upto 12 pound line, they would be a real handful...
and one thing too...they can jump!!! acrobatics and all...dun believe me? check out mark berg's encounter with the flying torpedo...

big momma...
now that is one BIG fish!!! if i had her on the other end of the line, i'd have my knife out to cut the line in a blink of an eye...
While the vessel ‘Dawn Raider’ out of Markleys Marina in Essex, Md. was fishing for Striped Bass (also locally known as Rock Fish), this Great White was hooked in the mouth.
It only resisted slightly for 15 minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough for one of the crew members to slip a rope a round its tail!!! And that’s when things heated up!!
The shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 knots. Just like in JAWS, the boat was taking on water over the stern and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned.
She weighed in at 1035 LBS.
It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino current into local waters in search of food. Although mid 60 degree water is considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the low 50s.

aur/dayang 20 years ago
...if the fishing is only about 50 to 60% of the quality as compared to back then, then we are sure to be in for a treat...IF we make it there...check out the old vid below...
'cuda popping...
came across this clip of a 38 kgm barracuda caught on popper...it's obviously a massive animal even when it's not in the scene yet judging from the extreme bend on the fishing rod...but HOLY COW!!!! it's the size of a small car!
i'd really hate to have that on the other end of my line...hell on the arms, legs and the back!
GULP!

caranx ignoblis
...sounds funky? or just to take the common name...GIANT TREVALLY! otherwise also known as ulua in hawaiian waters, ronin-aji in japan and mamulan in the marianas...
all it equates to is a fabulous sportfish with an estimated max growth weight of close to 90 kgm...yes 90 frickin' kilograms!!!
more commonly found between 5 to 30+ kgm, these are seriously aggro fish which are very prone to taking lures, be it casted or trolled...and they hit like a ton of bricks and pull like the proverbial freight train...
i once caught a 28 kgm one in the maldives...took me 45 minutes on 30 pound line and laid me low with a back spasm for a couple of hours thereafter...man!
with a little bit of luck, we can get on this mooted fishing trip upto pulau aur/dayang and tangle with some of these babies...it'll be an eye-opener for the others for sure...arms will definitely get stretched...
check out mark berg's GT in the vid below...yowzer, just listen to that drag whistle out!

journeys to come...
...just a bit of musing pertaining to the rest of the year to come, holiday/relaxation-wise that is...
i do however wish i could have the moolah/chance/time to drop into boracay with XKATS, but for this year i think it's only a pipedream...perhaps 2009 then...
EDIT - sorry, not very clear WRT japan...the 6 nights extension includes kyoto and other places as well, not 6 whole nights in tokyo...so dun worry, big guy..hahaha...
- end may - a quick track 3 hour track session upto at pasir gudang with the miata sg crowd...should be less than 100 bucks for an exclusive 3 hours session with only cars from our gaggle...estimated about 30 people i guess...think i will have to get my coolant changed, camber-bolts and alignment done before i head up...should be good fun as it will be the first time that i am taking lexi out in anger on track (same goes for chuah and his "new" m3)...
- sometime in july i think - the recently boating trip seems to have brought out the renewed itch for piscatorial pursuits...audra seems to have a nice lobang for a serious fishing trip up to pulau aur/dayang and we shall pursue this to find out more...only thing is, the mooted plan is to leave friday night, get there saturday wee hours of the morning and then return sunday night...not exactly a whole lot of time available for fishing...say max a day and a half plus maybe night-fishing? we will need to find out more details and work out a plan with the operator and get together with sherine's boyz to discuss further...and we have to gear up accordingly...aiyoooo, i am all itchy already...
- end october/early november - plan is to do a hokkaido tour for 7 days with XKATS and extend in tokyo for say 6 additional nights to enjoy big guy's hospitality (thanks ya, bro!)...perhaps will head off to kyoto for 2 or 3 nights though...using it as a base to hit osaka/kobe as well (must do kyoto's bamboo forest!)...this will be the big one for the year i guess...not gonna be cheap though, but i think it will definitely be worth the while since i haven't been to japan in ages (since about 14 IIRC) and would love the chance to catch up with big guy and family...

chwee taat lan!
the dry wit of the Aussie bloke is well-known...as typified by the below incident involving former Australian Defence Force head honcho Peter Cosgrove...
General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently. You’ll love his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!
This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.
It is a portion of an ABC interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military headquarters.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?
GENERAL COSGROVE:
We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?
GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?
GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.
FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.
GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma’am, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?
The radio went silent and the interview ended.

some day it will all come to an end...
came across this and i think it's great food for thought...
Ready or not, some day, it will come to an end.
There will be no more surprises: no minutes hours or days.
All things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass on to some else.
Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owed or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments , frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.
So, too, will your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to- do lists expire.
The wins and losses, that once seemed so important, will fade away.
At the end, it won’t matter where you were born or what side of the tracks you lived.
It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So, what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built…
Not what you got but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people knew you, but how many people will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.
What will matter are not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not a matter of circumstances but of choice.
Are you choosing a life that matters?

i am aghast! what kind of crummy hospital is this???
A hospital in the Republic of Ireland has admitted removing the wrong kidney from a sick child. The mistake, that led to a healthy kidney being removed, was described by Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin as an "unprecedented error".
The Dublin hospital said it had given its sincere apologies to the family. The young child now faces regular dialysis unless a donor kidney can be found. An internal investigation is being carried out by the hospital.
The hospital described it as a "significant and regrettable medical error". The child has been discharged from the hospital.

i've said it time and again...
...and i'll say it again...there is no substitute for a street directory and some common sense...with the advent of sat-nav and GPS, too many people are getting over-dependent on these gadgets...
now see what's happened?
A taxi driver following his satellite navigating instructions ended up stranded in a river after taking a wrong turning at a ford in the road. The red-faced driver - working for a taxi company called Streamline - drove 200 yards up the River Nar in Norfolk before his eight-seater minibus ground to a halt on the muddy river bed.
Luckily, the Volkswagen Caravelle had no passengers aboard because it was on its way to pick up a fare. The driver used his mobile phone to ring the taxi owners and report he was adrift without a paddle.
Yesterday the owners said the driver was too embarrassed to talk about his experience.

an unwelcome visitor...
the pitfalls of staying in gator country...yeesh! i'd be scared shitless!
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — An Eastlake Woodlands woman made a beeline for the door when she saw what was next to her refrigerator Monday night. According to deputies, 69-year-old Sandra Frosti heard a noise coming from her kitchen. When she went to check what it was, she saw the head of a large alligator.
Frosti called 911, “There’s an alligator in my kitchen!” she explained. The emergency operator reportedly suggested it might be an Iguana. Frosti suggested otherwise and left the house.
Deputies showed up at the home a short time later and then called a trapper. Deputies believe the 8-foot 8-inch gator was after the family cat. It apparently broke through the back porch screen door, entered the home through an open sliding glass door, and then made its way in through the living room, down the hall, and into the kitchen.
The gator was slightly injured as it was being trapped, when a plate was knocked to the ground cutting the alligator.
