day 8...

...dawned on us in tokyo...

we had arrived fairly late the night before and had been checked into the ANA hotel near narita. the rest of the people on the tour package were having the day free and easy (i.e. guide was gonna bring them to some big shopping centre for a day of shopping) but the missus and i decided to give it a miss and head off on our own. we checked out and made our way to my friend's place where we'd we bunking in for the next week or so (barring the 2 nights that we had planned for kyoto)...

after getting settled in for a bit, we headed out immediately to look for grub plus some shopping in shibuya...special mention has to be made of the lunch that we had at a little sushi joint called midori at shibuya station...sublimely fresh sushi that was in my book one of the best that i'd ever had...i was convulsing in sheer pleasure, i tell you...drooling

  1. at JR ozaki station awaiting our ride to shibuya
  2. the statue of hachiko the dog - the japanese revere the trait of loyalty and it is no more better shown by the story of this dog (to learn more, click HERE)
  3. hunting around in shibuya station for midori
  4. seated at the counter - the best place to check out the deft hands of the sushi masters
  5. chef's omakase set - @ 2940 yen it ain't particularly cheap, but it was particularly GOOD, not to mention fresh...
  6. hachiko crossing in shibuya (a pedestrian scramble) - this is one of the most if not THE most crowded pedestrian crossings in the world...all the traffic comes to a complete standstill and i watched amused as heck whilst a seemingly amorphous mass of people went left right and centre all over...
  7. the iconic shibuya109 building
  8. shibuya gals
  9. a solitary figure
  10. shibuya night scene
  11. more shibuya nights
  12. she's in her element cos it's shopping time!
  13. the ebb and flow of people in shibuya is astounding...massive human traffic
  14. we ended up at TENGU for dinner...a chain of eating cum drinking bars known as izakayas
  15. hachiko crossing at night...even more crowded!

the moral of the story, as tan ah teck would put it, is...

..if you are going to do a runner from a restaurant, make sure you aren't on Facebook, or at least don't let it be known...well and truly shafted!laughing

Dodgy diners at Seagrass in Melbourne Facebooked

MELBOURNE restaurateur Peter Leary has used Facebook to track down bill dodgers in his up-market establishment, Seagrass.

The drama unfolded last week when a group of five young diners, after drinking at the bar, requested a table at the Southbank restaurant. Over dinner, they worked their way expertly through the menu, ordered and drank fine wines and, after ordering dessert, slipped out "for a smoke". They kept going.

Leary was left with an unpaid bill for about $520, and little hope of recovering his money.

Pet parrot had sex with woman's feather hat

A horrified pet owner couldn't believe it when she woke her find her lust-filled parrot having relations with her expensive feather hat - while she was wearing it.

Her pet Shrek flew into a lust-filled frenzy after swallowing nine SlimNSexy diet pills, which also boost sex drive.

Mum-of-three Jackie, 40, of Witham, Essex, had nodded off wearing the hat after a christening. She said: “He turned into a maniac. All he wanted was to get his wing over, it’s disgusting.”

Batman to be killed off after 70 years

Batman is to be killed off after 70 years, the comic's writer has revealed. 'Batman RIP' will see "the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman", according to Grant Morrison.

There are rumours that Batman will suffer a gruesome end when his sidekick Robin goes over to "the dark side" and destroys him in a terrible betrayal.

Others speculate that Wayne may either retire from his duties or be killed by a mystery villain known as the Black Glove. His fate will be revealed in the latest issue of DC Comic's Batman, published today.

"What I am doing is a fate worse than death, things that no one would expect to happen to these guys at all," Mr Morrison told Comic Book Resources.

Mr Morrison, the Scottish writer, has written storylines for comics including X-Men for Marvel and Superman for DC Comics. He took over writing the Batman series for DC in 2006.

mortage-backed securities explained...

...by none other than forrest gump! side-splitting!laughing

Mortgage Backed Securities are like boxes of chocolates.

Criminals on Wall Street stole a few chocolates from the boxes and replaced them with turds. Their criminal buddies at Standard & Poor rated these boxes AAA Investment Grade chocolates. These boxes were then sold all over the world to investors.

Eventually somebody bit into a turd and discovered the crime. Now nobody trusts American chocolates anymore.

A Mister Hank Paulson now wants the American taxpayers to buy up and hold all these boxes of chocolate turds for $700 billion dollars until the market for turds returns to normal.

Meanwhile, Hank’s buddies, the Wall Street criminals who stole all the good chocolates are not being investigated, arrested, or indicted.

Mama always said: “Sniff the chocolates first, Forrest”.
