...is a lucky man.
This accident happened during the second qualifying session of the Hungarian Grand Prix this past weekend at the Hungaroring in Budapest. Tthe suspension of the Barichello-driven Brawn GP car went kaput and a loose suspension spring flew off and hit the following Massa in the head. At those extreme speeds (estimated to be around 275 kmh), even the helmet didn’t help that much to prevent injury altogether. But at least it saved his life for sure. Massa lost consciousness and veered into a tyre-lined barrier at about 120 mph...
Several centimeters to one side and it would have been all over for him.
As it is, his skull was fractured, his eye was injured and there are grave doubts over whether he will ever drive for Scuderia Ferrari again...
Get well soon, Felipe...
