...before a concerted gun-control effort is put into place? and why the heck does it almost invariably happen in the US where there is lax gun control? does "the free-est country in the world" also mean the free-est to DIE or BE SHOT? it's just bloody ludicrous!


A gunman has opened fire on students at a university near Chicago in the United States, wounding at least 15 people. The shooting took place at Northern Illinois University, in De Kalb, 65 miles (100 km) west of Chicago, in Cole Hall near the King Commons, a central gathering place for the 25,000 students on campus.

Students told local radio stations they had seen a white male with a pistol and a shotgun.

Several people have been taken to hospital with serious head wounds. Police in DeKalb say the gunman is dead, according to media reports.
