what a crazy stunt to pull...albeit in the name of charity...but man! i hope he's alright...
A Catholic priest who floated away under hundreds of helium balloons in a bid to raise money for his parish is missing off Brazil. Only pieces of the party balloons have been found by searchers looking for Reverend Adelir Antonio de Carli off the coast of Santa Catarina state.
Mr de Carli, 41, lifted off from the port city of Paranagua yesterday afternoon wearing a helmet, thermal suit and a parachute. He was reported missing about eight hours later after losing contact with port authority officials, according to the treasurer of his Sao Cristovao parish, Denise Gallas.
Mr di Carli had been trying to break a 19-hour record for flying with balloons to raise money for a spiritual rest-stop for truckers in Paranagua, Brazil's second-largest port for agricultural products.
He soared to an altitude of 6000m then descended to about 2500m for his flight to the city of Dourados, 750km northwest of his parish. But winds pushed him out to sea and Mr di Carli was 50km off the coast when he last contacted Paranagua's port authority, Ms Gallas said. Mr di Carli had a GPS device, a satellite phone, a buoyant chair and was an experienced skydiver, she said.

...wtf...fancy getting into a brawl over a frickin' PIE??? get a life, dimwits!
A row over the correct way to make shepherd’s pie ended up in court after a disagreement between two brothers turned violent.
After a day spent drinking, Michael Garvin cooked his brother John the traditional English dish for dinner, expecting a grateful response. John, however, voiced his disquiet that the pie was not topped with a layer of sliced tomatoes.
His brother, a chef, claimed a layer of tomatoes was not the appropriate way to finish off a shepherd’s pie, and responded by hitting him over the head with a shovel. As the argument got out of control, John threatened to petrol bomb his brother’s flat and was arrested.
He spent a night in the cells in Blackburn, Lancs, where the pair lived in flats opposite each other. He admitted a breach of the peace, and was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £200.

dude hypnotises himself before an operation and goes through it without anaesthesia...my goodness! guess he'd have known whether it was working with the first slash of the scalpel...
A hypnotist from has undergone surgery on his right hand without a general anaesthetic.
Alex Lenkei, 61, from Worthing, chose to sedate himself by hypnosis before undergoing the 83-minute operation. He said he was fully aware of everything going on around him during the procedure but was free from pain.
The operation at Worthing Hospital involved removing some bone in the base of the thumb and fusing some joints in an attempt to improve his arthritis. "I was aware of everything around me, from people talking and at one stage a hammer and chisel was used as well as a surgical saw, but I felt no pain."

the Bentley Continental GT

the Aston Martin DB9

the Mercedes CL65 AMG
look-wise, it's no fight of course...the DB9's sleek lines and bespoke ancestry puts it wayyyy above the 2 other contenders, but check out the vid below of the drag race between the 3 cars and see the enormous amount of rubber laid down and the beat-up of the other 2 by.............
...you'll just have to watch and see for yourself...
a fried cross-over and...
...that's all she wrote...the phoenix gold components that a kind friend passed to me kaputted...the left cross-over somehow got fried...leaving me with no choice but to get a new set of components or have no muzak in the car at all... *sigh* ...money down the drain again...
decided on a set of RAINBOW AUDIO dreamline SLX265 components...sounds pretty damned good whilst being auditioned...more musical and detailed than the phoenix golds...at a not-too-horrendous price...
and quite well-reviewed in some quarters...off a german mag CAR & Hi-Fi Apr '07 ish...
SLX 265 - Rainbow delivers as usual perfect loudspeaker chassis workmanship ... During our measurements both chassis show very low distortion and produce an excellent sound pressure level ... Sound wise Rainbow is making clear that it is more suitable than just providing fun for smart spenders. Well balanced and with wonderful tone colors it is absolutely recommendable for the consumption of superior recording. Also the low frequency range is convincing with an extremely clean play and great depth. Beside that an unobtrusive but detailed high frequency range, a real highlight for gourmets. Result: Something special for sound enthusiasts. It goes strong with the roundest and best mids and most musical sound.

A teenage girl had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in a baby's swing after "a lark" on a Lancashire seafront. The crew from Morecambe fire station were called to Marine Drive Central in Morecambe at 9pm on Tuesday after friends of the 14-year-old phoned for help.
Watch manager Tim Morrell, of the resort's station, said the girl was "quite embarrassed" at the incident which happened at a children's play area on the promenade. He said: "She had been playing around on the swing and slipped right down into it and then realised she could not get herself out of it.
"We just clipped her out and let her go on her way. I do not know how long she had been stuck there but she seemed pretty relieved to get out."

Australian police stranded as handcuffed suspect steals their car
Police in the Australian city of Brisbane were left stranded and embarrassed after a handcuffed suspect drove off in their patrol car. The two officers had arrested 29-year-old Mark Robert Nolan in connection with a series of burglaries. They put him in their unmarked vehicle and went round the back to look for some further evidence.
Mr Nolan waited until they had gone, climbed into the driver's seat, started the engine and drove off. Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Ian Stewart said that the two officers had been investigating the contents of a bag in Mr Nolan's possession. "During that time, it appears Nolan has got into the front of the police car and turned the police car on and driven off," he said.
Mr Nolan had been handcuffed with his hands in front of his body, he said. The car was later found but Mr Nolan was nowhere to be seen. Queensland police promised a "thorough investigation" into what happened.

A 13-year-old boy hopes to win a balloon-blowing record by a nose. Blowing through one nostril at a time, Andrew Dahl inflated 213 balloons within an hour Friday — a feat that has been submitted for review by Guinness World Records. His father, measured the balloons to make sure each was at least 20 centimeters, the minimum diameter, and his mother, Wendy Dahl, kept the tally.
At one point he asked, "Does this count as practicing my trumpet?" His mother replied, "Only if you can play that with your nose." Andrew's first attempt — 184 balloons in February — was rejected because his father tied the balloons. This time he tied them off himself.
