a fried cross-over and...

...that's all she wrote...the phoenix gold components that a kind friend passed to me kaputted...the left cross-over somehow got fried...leaving me with no choice but to get a new set of components or have no muzak in the car at all... *sigh* ...money down the drain again...

decided on a set of RAINBOW AUDIO dreamline SLX265 components...sounds pretty damned good whilst being auditioned...more musical and detailed than the phoenix golds...at a not-too-horrendous price...

and quite well-reviewed in some quarters...off a german mag CAR & Hi-Fi Apr '07 ish...

SLX 265 - Rainbow delivers as usual perfect loudspeaker chassis workmanship ... During our measurements both chassis show very low distortion and produce an excellent sound pressure level ... Sound wise Rainbow is making clear that it is more suitable than just providing fun for smart spenders. Well balanced and with wonderful tone colors it is absolutely recommendable for the consumption of superior recording. Also the low frequency range is convincing with an extremely clean play and great depth. Beside that an unobtrusive but detailed high frequency range, a real highlight for gourmets. Result: Something special for sound enthusiasts. It goes strong with the roundest and best mids and most musical sound.
