the NARROW-BARRED SPANISH MACKEREL is another aggro pelagic, hitting lures and bait without compunction...it doesn't grow as big as the GT but what it lacks in size and weight (relatively-speaking), it more than makes up for in sheer speed...there is nothing like the first strike run of these speedsters (other than their close relative - the wahoo - which can be even faster)
the drag on the reel literally sizzles, running hot and drying out the salt water!
the photo shows a 46 kgm monster but they would be more commonly encountered in our waters between 5 to perhaps 12 kgm...but even at those comparatively-smaller sizes, they are not an easy proposition by any means...on light tackle upto 12 pound line, they would be a real handful...
and one thing too...they can jump!!! acrobatics and all...dun believe me? check out mark berg's encounter with the flying torpedo...
