Stab-proof hoodies with the same body armour used by troops in Iraq are being sold to teenagers in fear of soaring knife crime. And plans are under way to extend the idea to school uniforms.
The £65 black cotton tops are lined with Kevlar, a synthetic fibre that can be spun into knife-resistant fabric sheets five times stronger than steel.
The hoodie armour is the brainchild of businessmen Adrian Davis and Barry Samms, who make protective clothes for police and security guards. The pair — who run the BladeRunner firm in Romford, Essex — believe there is a gap in the market.
