yes, it's been panned by critics as being "plain awful" and "overly long and complicated" but nevertheless the juggernaut that is SPIDERMAN 3 rumbles onward and forthward irresistibly...clocking up a record-breaking US$148 million in the 1st weekend of release, easily eclipsing the previous record of us$136 million set by POTC: Dead Man's Chest...
me, i find it to be a tad bit long and the pacing a bit on and off throughout the whole movie...albeit still rather entertaining...tobey and kirsten make a pretty pairing and do a workmanlike performance in the face of the whole CGI onslaught...in particular, the geekiness of mr maguire shines through like a beacon in the dark (dunno whether that's good for him or not...the danger lies in the eminent possibility of being typecast)...
the villains were decently fleshed out...topher grace in particular comes in for my praise for the vulnerability during his fall and the manic glint in his eyes when he's taken over by the alien symbiote...completely believable...
one horrible interlude stands out though...the music portion when ole peter parker goes all emo under the influence of the symbiote...that was totally cringeworthy...urghhh...what the blazes was sam raimi thinking?????
sooooo....for me, it's at best a 3-1/2 outta 5...worth a watch, but just suspend disbelief for the 140 minutes and just enjoy it for what it's worth...a comic book come to life on the big screen...
and latest news is...there will be at least 3 MORE sequels (see HERE)...goodness, the studios are milking this cash cow for all it's worth, i tell you...wonder what other villains will rear their heads...electro? kraven? hmmmmm...
