mandate is defined as...

..."A command or an authorization given by a political electorate to its representative"...

and soooooo, it seems the dragon son has his...with a surprisingly high 66.6% of all votes polled...i must say that i was quite startled to say the least...i was kind of expecting a low 60 to at most 63 some % seeing as how the other protagonists were more organised and fielded more credible candidates (save for the star trek party which were just incompetent shitheads)...

of course the 2 most closely-watched fights were that for aljunied GRC and potong pasir SMC lah...in the former, an outstanding A team from the hammers garned something in excess of 43% of votes against the incumbent lightning people...the best showing of all the opposition...kudos to them...seems that as a result of this, ms big badangdangs will be invited to be a NCMP...

the other was of course ole man CST managing to fight off and even increase his percentage over the younger lightning candidate STYP, in spite of having a very senior lightning man helping with leverage on his personal popularity and the big dangling carrot of upgrading of all the elevators in that ward...i was personally expecting a very close contest but i think that the dignified demeanour of the incumbent worked very well in his favour this time...good on him!

surprisingly, the hammer suicide squad did pretty well in the PM's GRC... *shock* ...i think as a result more of party branding than personal standouts in the team...wonder if glenda will buy the guys and me a round of drinks at her place next weekend...must get lammy to ask...hehe... =))

big losers this time round were the star trek party...chairman got well and truly pounded in bukit panjang (all of 22% of votes), and their team contesting the bigggest GRC got squashed like a bug...of course they blame it on an undemocratic electoral process and did not concede anything...personally, i believe it's all got to do with their figurehead party headman...everytime the elections come around, he inevitably stuffs his shoe into his big gob and screws up big time...his type of showy fillibusting politics just do not work in singapore...and is more of an exercise in showy "martyrdom"...who he's trying to impress, i have no clue...but he sure has not succeeding in impressing many people here...dumbarse *rolleyes* just a huge liability to the opposition as a whole...

oh well, another election over and things pretty much remain status quo...albeit, the 1st time swing voters have actually made a bit of a statement...most margins of the lightning party have been eroded and it does signify something....if not for the really crappy showing of the trekkies, i think the margin would not be anywhere near 66.6% (more like 62 to 63, as what i was predicting)....time will tell...let's wait for the next few patiently...i think it will throw up more surprises...for now, just hoping that the lightning party can see beyond the actual numbers of votes and open their eyes to the dissatisfaction brewing, and do something positive about it for the country in general...
